Location and Setup
Grossing stations are typically situated in a well-ventilated area of the laboratory, with access to running water and a waste disposal system. The workstations are designed for optimal ergonomics, with adjustable height tables, easy-to-reach tools, and adequate space for the pathologist to work comfortably.
The stations are equipped with a range of surgical instruments, including scalpels, scissors, and forceps, which are used to cut and manipulate the tissue specimens. Additionally, rulers, calipers, and other measurement tools are used to document the size and location of lesions or abnormalities. Grossing dishes, containers, and trays are used to hold the specimens and ensure that they are kept organized and labeled correctly.
